A decadal study of threats to Pink Coreopsis (Coreopsis rosea) and Plymouth Gentian (Sabbatia kennedyana) on lakes in Kespukwitk, Nova Scotia

In 2010, Mersey Tobeatic Research Institute and many partner organizations initiated the Atlantic Coastal Plain Flora Atlas. This was a multi-year project from 2010 to 2015 to collect data on plant populations, habitat types, water quality and threats while also engaging people directly in conservation. It also had the wider goal of setting baselines to measure against in the future. From 2022-2024 threats were resampled on all lakes that host the Pink Coreopsis (Endangered), and the Plymouth Gentian (Endangered). For each location the type of threat was collected along with geospatial location data. This poster will investigate the changes over the last decade on this subset of lakes in NS and discuss the wider implications for these two plant species and the need to manage and mitigate threats that directly impact the shoreline, the habitat adjacent to the shoreline and ultimately the water quality of these lakes.
