A Summary of threats from the Atlantic Coastal Plain Flora Atlas (2010-2015)

The Atlantic coastal plain flora (ACPF) are a unique group of plants that exist in Nova Scotia disjunct from their main populations in the Eastern United States. In Nova Scotia many of these species exist in low nutrient lake shore habitats where they rely on natural disturbances such as ice scour to maintain the quality of their habitats and eliminate competing species. Several of these species are listed as Endangered, Threatened or Special Concern/Vulnerable by COSEWIC. Existing in these lake shore habitats often results in interactions with human activities. Standardized threats were measured on the entire shores of 35 high priority lakes from 2010-2015. Lake by lake analysis of threats allows for more focused stewardship and conservation efforts. The results of these surveys are summarized by lake with maps and tables.
