There are many ways you can get involved in volunteering at MTRI. Students, staff, and researchers all need help with projects like Blanding's turtle nest protection and old-growth forest monitoring, to name a few. You can view a current list of MTRI's volunteer opportunities here. Contact one of our project staff, or email us to find out more.
Current Opportunities:
Conservation Experience Opportunity
This internship offers a unique opportunity to gain hands-on experience in wildlife conservation, specifically working with at-risk species. In a province where such opportunities are limited, this position allows you to collaborate with dedicated staff and volunteers to protect and monitor endangered reptiles. You'll gain valuable field skills, experience in data collection, and hands-on involvement in conservation efforts.
The internship will require evening and night shifts to monitor Blanding’s Turtles and protect their nests. This will involve hiking, canoeing, and conducting nighttime observations alongside another team member (staff or volunteer). Training will be provided by experienced staff, and the intern will gain in-depth knowledge of species at risk monitoring techniques. Due to the nature of the work, there will be opportunities to engage in discussions about other ongoing projects and learn from them. Interns may also have the option to assist with additional fieldwork during their tenure, including surveys for old-growth forests, Eastern Ribbonsnakes, or bats, should they wish to participate.
Send an expression of interest to carter.feltham@merseytobeatic to discuss details and schedule an interview by May 15th.
